Belgium and Canada face off on Wednesday in a World Cup showdown in a Group F showdown at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium.

Belgium’s window of great success seems to be closing, and this might be their last chance in a while to have a realistic chance to win the World Cup. Belgium had little problems qualifying for the World Cup, but it seems when this team enters in major tournaments, they struggle. Last Friday, Belgium faced off against Egypt, and they really struggled. Belgium fell behind 2-0, and the goal in the 76th minute by Lois Openda wasn’t enough as they were defeated. Kevin De Bruyne is the star of this team, and they are going to need him to be impressive here. Lukaku is banged up, and although he might be back later in the tournament, he won’t be playing here. Thorgan Hazard is still dealing with an injury, and it’s unclear if he’s going to be able to go here.

For the first time in 36 years, Canada is back in the World Cup. This is a very young Canadian team who are really looking forward to 2026 being their year. One big question for Canada is how can they perform away from home. Canada didn’t find a ton of success off their home soil during qualifying, and that will need to change if they want to advance out of the group stage. In the last lead-up game, Canada was able to beat Japan 2-1. It was a goal in the 95th minute from the penalty spot that led to the victory. They had 55 percent of the possession and three shots on goal. Star Alphonso Davies suffered a hamstring injury two weeks ago, and now there are major doubts about if he’s going to be able to go in this game. If Davies can’t go, Canada is going to need to play a near perfect game to pick up three points.

Outside of Davies, Canada does still have some offensive firepower, and I still think they score at least a goal here. This Belgium team has so much talent on the attack, and they are still going to find a way to find success, even with Canada’s defense being good. Look for at least three goals to be scored, and the over 2.5 goals is going to cash.
