Borussia M’gladbach is hosting Bayern Munich at Borussia-Park in a season opener of German Bundesliga. Borussia M’gladbach has had a great preseason, and they have lost only 1 of their last 6 games. Bayern on the other hand has had a terrible preseason, and they have lost 3 of their 4 friendly games, while 1 game ended in a draw.
Borussia was able to keep their best players in the offseason, at least for now, while still being able to bring in a few good players that will help them get back to the top 4 in Bundesliga this season. In their 5 preseason games, Borussia has scored at least 1 goal in each of those games, and they were even able to keep 2 clean sheets which is a great sign for their defense. Borussia was playing a game in the DFB Pokal last week, and they were solid with 50% of ball possession, 6 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, 2 big chances created, and 77% of the correct passes. With a goal in the 11th minute, Borussia has won this game 0-1. With Thuram and Plea still on the roster, Borussia’s chances at getting back to the Champions League spot are much better, but they might lose Zakaria who could be sold to Arsenal. I think Borussia is a great team, and I think they will have a much better season than the last one, but they need to stay consistent.
Bayern is starting this season with a new head coach, and that is Julian Nagelsmann, former Leipzig coach, and one of the most talented young coaches in the world. The preseason was brutal for Bayern, especially on the defensive end, but that is understandable because they have a few new players, and a new coach, which will take some getting used to from other players. Bayern hasn’t made any money from transfers this offseason, but they haven’t spent much as well. The biggest signing for Bayern is Upamecano from Leipzig, a defender that has a bright future ahead of him. Bayern has won the title in Bundesliga last season, dominantly I might add, and they are the biggest favorites to win it this season as well. As I’ve mentioned, Bayern has a terrible preseason, and they have conceded 10 goals in 4 games while scoring only 4 goals. With a total of 99 scored goals in Bundesliga last season, Bayern was one of the best offensive teams in the world, and once they get going, they will be hard to stop and be sure, that is coming soon because Bayern has a ton of quality.
The trends are on Bayern’s side in this matchup, but they have met a couple of weeks ago in a friendly game, and Borussia has won that match 0-2. We know Bayern is in bad form while Borussia is playing great, and I think they will score here, but it’s only a matter of time before Bayern gets going. I’m taking goals in this one.
