Brighton is welcoming Brentford to American Express Community Stadium on Boxing Day in round 19 of the English Premier League. It’s been a long time since Brighton won a game, 3 months almost to the day to be exact, but they are somehow far from the relegation zone. Brentford has been in better form than Brighton, but they have the same number of points and are just 1 spot above Brighton.
Brighton has won only 4 games so far this season, they have only 4 losses, but they have 8 draws, and that is the main reason why they are so high in the standings. Offensively, Brighton is not doing much, they have scored only 14 goals so far this season, but their defense has been among the best in the league with 17 conceded goals. Brighton is now in 13th place with 20 points. The schedule over the holidays is not easy for Brighton as they will be facing Chelsea and Everton, but with the defense, we know they can play, Brighton might do well. Maupay is the leading goalscorer for Brighton with 6 goals. Welbeck, Sarmiento, Webster, and Dunk are all injured. Another average season for Brighton, but there is simply no moving forward without offense, even if their defense is outstanding.
Brentford started the season really well, but as expected, they have cooled off because smaller teams simply don’t have the quality or the depth to play well for a long time. Brentford’s form has been solid lately with only 2 losses in their last 6 games, but the teams they have beaten weren’t the strongest in the league. Earlier this week, Brentford has lost to Chelsea in the EFL Cup, but now that they are out of it, they can solely focus on the EPL. Brentford has the same number of points ad Brighton, 20, and they are in 12th place, but their offense has been producing more than Brighton’s was so far. Defensively, Brentford has been decent with 22 conceded goals so far this season. After this game, Brentford is playing against Manchester City and Aston Villa, and those will be very hard games for them. Injuries are a big problem for Brentford right now, and Raya, Ajer, Zanka, Jeanvier, and Da Silva are all on the list. Toney is the leading goalscorer for Brentford with 4 goals. Brentford will be staying in the EPL next season as well, ad that was their main goal.
As I’ve mentioned, it was a long while since Brighton has won a game, and I think they are due. Brentford has a lot of injuries, and I don’t think they have the offense to go through Brighton’s defense right now. I will take Brighton at home to finally get a win.
