Chelsea is hosting Sevilla at Stamford Bridge in round 1 of the New Champions League season.
Chelsea is such a good team, at least in the attacking end. In the EPL so far this season, Chelsea has scored 13 goals, conceded 9 goals, and won 8 points in their first 5 games, and they are in 7th place. Offensively, Chelsea is one of the strongest teams in Europe, but they are acting like kids on the playground on the defensive end, and it cost them a lot of points already this season. In their last match against Southampton in the EPL, Chelsea has had 53% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, 6 corner kicks, 2 big chances created, and 82% of the correct passes. Chelsea was leading 2-0, and 3-2 in this game, but they conceded a goal in the 92nd minute, and this game ended in a 3-3 draw. There are no injuries in Chelsea as of right now. Jorginho has scored 3 goals for Chelsea so far this season, while Zouma and Werner each added 2 goals. As I’ve said, Chelsea’s defense is bad, really bad this season, but they can score a goal against any team out there, but unfortunately, that might not be enough for Chelsea to make a notable result this season.
Sevilla has been playing well this season in LaLiga, and they are in 10th place in the standings with 7 points. Sevilla can be one of the most dangerous teams out there, but they are yet to show that this season. Sevilla has scored only 5 goals in 4 games this season while conceding 3 goals. In their last LaLiga game against Granada on the road, Sevilla has had 49% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 1 corner kick, 1 big chance created, and 79% of the correct passes. This was the worse game that Sevilla has played this season, and they conceded a red card at the end of the first half. Being a player short has put too much pressure on Sevilla, and they ended up losing this game 1-0. Idrissi is injured, while Kounde is in quarantine because of the Coronavirus. Luuk de Jong is the leading goalscorer for Sevilla this season with 2 goals. Sevilla has won the Europa League last season, and they absolutely deserved it, but Sevilla hasn’t signed much-needed reinforcements in the offseason, and that could be the problem for them. Of course, their good form might yet come because it’s still early in the season and the players are tired, but the longer it takes, the more will Sevilla fall behind.
Chelsea and Sevilla have never played against each other in the past. Chelsea has more depth and more quality on the bench, while Sevilla is missing Kounde, their best defender. Sevilla still has enough firepower to score against weak Chelsea’s defense, and for that reason, I will pick something on goals here.
