Chile is hosting Bolivia at Nacional in round 8 of the South American World Cup qualifications. Chile has been hot and cold so far in these qualifications, and as of right now, they are outside the World Cup zone. Bolivia is one of the weakest teams in South America, but they have gotten their first win a few days ago.
Chile hasn’t been doing particularly well on either end in these qualifications, and they have both scored and conceded 7 goals. Chile is now in 7th place with only 5 points from 5 games. In their latest game against Argentina on the road, Chile has had 46% of ball possession, 1 shot on goal, 4 corner kicks, 1 big chance created, and 84% of the correct passes. It’s not that Chile was doing a good job in this game, it’s more that Argentina wasn’t at their best, and this game has ended in a 1-1, and both goals were scored in the first half. Vidal has 4 goals to his name while Sanchez added 3 goals, and they are the only goalscorers for Chile which is telling us they don’t have the offensive depth. I believe that when push comes to shove, Chile will start playing better, and I see them qualifying for the World Cup, but as far as Coppa America goes, I don’t think Chile will be a threat to Brazil and Argentina this year.
As I’ve mentioned earlier, Bolivia is one of the weakest teams in South America, but they have gotten their first win in these qualifications just a few days ago. Bolivia has done a solid job in the attacking end so far with 8 goals, but they have conceded 13 goals, the most in these qualifications. Bolivia has conceded at least one goal in each of their game so far, but they have also scored at least one goal in all but one of their games. Moreno has been Bolivia’s best player in these qualifications with 5 goals, and he is expected to be in the starting lineup in this match as well. In their last game against Venezuela at home, Bolivia was the dominant team with 52% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 6 corner kicks, 1 big chance created, and 85% of the correct passes. With 1 scored goal in the first half, and 2 more scored goals in the second half, Bolivia has won this match 3-1. With only 4 points, Bolivia is in 8th place, far away from the World Cup zone, and I don’t think they will get to the World Cup this time.
When playing at home, Chile has not lost to Bolivia in their last 7 games, and they haven’t lost any of their last 6 home games overall. Chile is the better team here, and the trends are on their side in this matchup. I think this will be a fun game because Bolivia is solid in the attacking end while their defense is terrible. I will take Chile and the over in this one.
