Club Brugge and Atletico Madrid face off on Tuesday in a UEFA Champions League Group B showdown at Jan Breydel Stadium.
Club Brugge sits in 1st place in the standings having picked up six points. In the last UEFA Champions League game against Porto, they were able to secure a 4-0 victory. They opened up the scoring in the 15th minute and dominated the game. They had 45 percent of the possession and seven shots on target. On Saturday, Brugge faced off against Mechelen, and they were able to secure the 3-0 victory. Mats Rits is dealing with cruciate ligament rupture, and although he is almost back, he isn’t back yet. Clinton Mata and Noa Lang are both dealing with ankle injuries, and they won’t be able to go in this game.
On the other side of this matchup is Atlético Madrid, who sits in 3rd place in the standings having picked up three points. Atlético Madrid faced off against Leverkusen in the last Champions League game, and they were defeated 2-0. They gave up two goals after the 84th minute and that led to the loss. They finished the game with 55 percent of the possession, but only three shots on goal. Stefan Savic and Sergio Reguilon are both still dealing with injuries, and they won’t be able to go in this game. Without those two, the defense could take a big hit.
Even without the two Atlético defenders, I expect they are going to find some defensive success in this game against Club Brugge. I also don’t expect Atlético Madrid to have many quality scoring chances, and that is going to lead to this game being lower scoring. This game will finish 1-0 or 1-1. Back the under to cash.
