Costa Rica and Mexico face off on Sunday in CONCACAF World Cup Qualifications at Costa Rica’s National Stadium. These two teams faced off in June and it took penalties with the game being tied 0-0. In penalties, Mexico was able to win 5-4 and they were able to advance.

Mexico currently sit in 1st place in the CONCACAF standings after picking up three points on Thursday against Jamaica. Alexis Vega opened up the scoring in the 50th minute with a goal by Alexis Vega. Jamaica tied the score in the 65th minute, and it looked like Mexico might only be taking away a point. In the 89th minute, Henry Martin added a goal to lock up the victory. Mexico had 27 shots in the game and seven of them went on goal. Mexico had 73 percent of the possession and in this game look for them to continue that pressure against Costa Rica.

On the other side of this matchup is Costa Rica who faced off with Panama on Thursday and the game ended in a 0-0 draw. Costa Rica played the worse soccer in that game, but they didn’t give up a goal. Costa Rica managed only four shots and zero of those went on goal. Panama in that game had 18 shots and two shots on target. If they want any chance to keep this game close, they are going to need to find a way to get more shots on goal. It’s probably going to take a couple of goals to even get a draw in this game.

Mexico is the better team, and Costa Rica doesn’t have enough offense to keep this game anywhere close. Look for Mexico to score at least three goals and that will be enough for them to win -2.5.
