Empoli is hosting Milan at Carlo Castellani in round 19 of the Italian Serie A. Empoli is playing surprisingly well right now, and because of it, Empoli has gained some distance from the relegation zone. Milan hasn’t won any of their last 3 games, and they have lost the top spot in Serie A and got knocked out of the Champions League.
Empoli is now undefeated in their last 6 games while winning 4 of those 6 games. With 27 points, Empoli is now in 9th place, which is impressive. Offensively, Empoli is doing great, and they have scored 28 scored goals, but their defense is not great at all with 30 conceded goals. During their 6-game streak without a loss, Empoli has scored 13 goals, they have conceded 8 goals, and they were even able to keep one clean sheet. Of the 28 scored goals Empoli has, 6 were scored by Pinamonti who is their leading goalscorer. Haas is the only injured player for Empoli right now. I know Empoli is playing really well right now, they are scoring goals, but they are also conceding goals, but their good form makes me wonder for how much longer they can keep playing this well, and once they start crashing, they will crash hard.
As I’ve mentioned, Milan is without a win in their last 3 games, and for a team aiming for the top spot in Serie A, that is unexpected. Inter has benefited a lot by getting knocked out of the Champions League last season, so maybe the same will happen to Milan this season. I know Milan’s fans liked seeing them in the Champions League, but I think this is better for them, and they can now focus on Serie A. the biggest problem for Milan right now is all of their injuries, and practically their entire defense is out of commission. With 39 points, Milan is now in 3rd place, but they are playing well in the attacking end, and Milan has scored 36 goals so far. Ibrahimovic is the leading goalscorer for Milan with 7 goals, while Giroud added 4 goals. Theo Hernandez added 5 assists. I think Milan is barely waiting for this winter break in hopes that some of their players will recover by the time the second half of the season starts, and I hope they will as well. I like Milan, I’m a Milan fan, but they are in a tough spot right now.
Empoli has never beaten Milan at home, and even in their current form, It’s hard to expect Empoli to beat them in this game. Even with all the injuries, Milan is the better team, and this is a nice place for them to bounce back, and I think they will.
