Everton vs. Southampton 1/14/23 EPL Soccer Picks, Predictions, Odds

Everton and Southampton face off on Saturday in an English Premier League showdown at Goodison Park. When these two teams faced off on October 1st it was Everton that secured the 2-1 victory. 

Everton currently sits in 18th place in the standings, having picked up 15 points. Last Friday against Manchester United, Everton’s defense really struggled, and they ended up losing 3-1. Conor Coady scored in the 14th minute, but it wasn’t enough. Everton had 42 percent of the possession and five shots on target. Alex Iwobi suffered an ankle injury in the last game against Manchester United, and he will miss the next few games. Abdoulaye Doucoure replaced him in that game, and it looks like he could be in line for a start again in this game. Everton is also expected to move to a back four, and they are going to need the defense to step up in a big way. 

On the other side of this matchup is Southampton, who sits in 20th place in the standings having picked up 12 points. On Wednesday, against Manchester City in the EFL Cup, they were able to secure a 2-0 victory. Southampton scored two goals in the first 28 minutes. Southampton only had 28 percent of the possession and four shots on target. Valentino Livramento is expected to be back soon for this team, but he suffered a minor setback, and he won’t be available to go in this game. Armel Bella-Kotchap, Stuart Armstrong and Juan Larios have also all been ruled out in this game. 

I really don’t trust either offense for this team, and both teams look like they are going to employ defensive shapes in this game. This is a game that it wouldn’t shock me if it ended zero, but at most there are going to be two goals scored. This game is going to stay under the total. Back under 2.5 goals.
