FC Augsburg is hosting RB Leipzig at WWK ARENA in round 16 of the German Bundesliga. Augsburg has been playing solid soccer as of late, and they have lost only 1 of their last 4 games. Leipzig is waking up after hiring the new head coach, but there is a lot more work to be done for this team.
Augsburg is still in the relegation zone, actually in the relegation playoff spot, but they are only 1 point away from the safe zone. With only 16 scored goals so far this season, Augsburg is one of the weakest teams in the league as far as the offense goes. Defensively, Augsburg isn’t great, but they are far from being the worst. In their last game, Augsburg was playing against Koln on the road, and they have won that game 0-2 with a solid performance on both ends. Niederlechner has scored 3 goals for Augsburg so far this season. There are a few injuries in Augsburg right now, but they will need to go without these players in this game. I think Augsburg is good enough to avoid the relegation, but it will be a tight race for them.
Leipzig is now on a 2-game winning streak, and thanks to that, Leipzig is back in the Champions League hunt. As far as the Champions League goes, Leipzig got knocked out into the Europa League where they will face Real Sociedad in the next stage. In Bundesliga, Leipzig is now in 9th place with 21 points, 29 scored goals, and 19 conceded goals. Leipzig’s defense is still shaky, they are still making stupid mistakes, but their offense is finally producing something, and they are only getting better. Nkunku is still the leading goalscorer for Leipzig with 7 goals and 5 assists, and he will be in the lineup for this game. Halstenberg, Olmo, Poulsen, and Saracchi are all injured. Leipzig needs a win on the road to relieve the pressure of being winless on the road, and Augsburg is perfect for them to do so. I know Leipzig is a solid team, and maybe they had some bad luck so far this season, but it’s not like their previous coach was good for this team. I think Leipzig will start improving, some changes are already visible, and I think brighter days are ahead for this team.
As I’ve mentioned, Leipzig is still without a win on the road. The trends are on Leipzig’s side in this matchup, and they are the better team. Both teams have some injuries, and both teams are in decent form, but I gotta side with the better team here, and that is Leipzig.
