FC Union Berlin is welcoming Borussia M’gladbach to An der Alten Forsterei in round 3 of the German Bundesliga. Union is a tough team to beat, and they are now undefeated in their last 10 games. Borussia has had a great preseason, but they got sloppy in Bundesliga, and they are winless in their first two games.
As I’ve said, Union is a tough team to beat, they are undefeated in their last 10 games, but they also haven’t won any of their first two Bundesliga games. The only win Union has in their last 4 games was in the Conference League qualifications, which they passed, and Union will be playing in the Conference League this season. In their last Bundesliga game against Hoffenheim on the road, Union has had only 36% of ball possession, 8 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, 3 big chances created, and 69% of accurate passes. This was a game where Union was leading, then they were losing, but they were able to tie the score, and the final result was 2-2. Awoniyi has scored 2 goals for Union so far this season, while Giesselmann added 1 goal. Dajaku is the only injured player. I think Union will be stretched thin this season because of the Conference League, and I don’t see them repeating the success from last season in Bundesliga because of that.
Borussia was playing great in the preseason, and even that season opener against Bayern at home, but they were just disappointed in their second game against Leverkusen on the road. Borussia has had 53% of ball possession, 6 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, 3 big chances created, and 85% of the correct passes. Borussia M’gladbach was losing 2-0 in the 8th minute, and they missed a penalty kick in the 43rd minute. With 2 more conceded goals in the second half, Borussia has lost this game 4-0, and it was a disaster at the start of this season. the only goal M’gladbach has scored was against Bayern, and it was Plea who scored. Doucoure, Embolo, and Kone are all injured for Borussia at the moment. Borussia will not be playing in any of the European competitions this season, and I think that is a good thing for them because they will be focused on Bundesliga, they will not have depth problems, and they will get plenty of rest between games.
Union hasn’t lost any of their last 8 home games, and they are in really good form, but as I’ve said, they haven’t won any of their Bundesliga games at the moment. Borussia is the better team here overall, but their form hasn’t been so good, and they are also without a win in Bundesliga. I will go with my gut here, and I just don’t think Union can stay this consistent for much longer. I will take Borussia M’gladbach.
