Iran and the United States face off on Tuesday in a World Cup Group B soccer showdown at Al Thumama Stadium. 

Iran comes into this game sitting in second place in the group, having picked up three points so far this year. Iran opened up the World Cup against England, and they were defeated 6-2. The defense looked awful, and it looked like it was going to be a long World Cup. In the last game against Wales, though, the defense was much better, and they ended up winning 2-0. One goal was scored in the 98th minute and the other goal was scored in the 101st minute. Alireza Jahanbakhsh picked up his second yellow in the last game, and he’s going to be suspended for this game. Azmoun was also hurt, and it’s unclear if he’s going to be able to go in this game. 

On the other side of this matchup is the United States, who sits in third place in the group having picked up two points. It’s very simple for the USA, if they win this game, they will advance to the knockout stage. The United States has played to a couple of draws so far in this tournament. In the first game against the Wales the game ended in a 1-1 draw, and in the last game against England the game ended in a 0-0 draw. The United States had 44 percent of the possession and one shot on goal. The United States is healthy coming into this game, but there could still be some changes made to the starting lineup. Giovanni Reyna was expected to play a big role for this team, but he has only played 15 total minutes in the World Cup. In this game, the United States needs to finish the quality scoring chances that they have. 

The United States might not have won against England, but it was no doubt a moral victory. There was concern about this United States defense heading into the World Cup, but they have been quite impressive.
