Leeds United and the Wolves face off on Saturday in an English Premier League showdown at Elland Road. When these two teams faced off in March 2022 it was Leeds United that secured the 3-2 victory.
Leeds United have to feel fortunate to even be back in the EPL this season, and they know they need to be better this season. It took until the last day of the season for Leeds to be safe, and stay up for their third season in a row. One big issue for Leeds heading into this season is they lost a couple of key players are gone. Kalvin Phillips is off to Manchester City and Raphinha is off to Barcelona. The good news though is they did bring in Brenden Aaronson who should have a big season. Two games ago against Crystal Palace, Leeds United played to a 1-1 draw, and in the last game against Cagliari they were able to win 6-2. Even though they scored the six goals, the two goals given up have to big concern.
On the other side of this matchup is the Wolverhampton Wanderers, who finished last season in 10th place in the Premier League standings, having picked up 51 points. All eyes are going to be on Pedro Neto this season, who is now 22 years old, and many expect this is going to be the year that he takes a big step forward. The team also brought in defender Nathan Collins, and he is going to be a key if the defense is good. The hope is the Wolves will have a better offense this season, but in each of the last two games they have only scored one goal. Two games ago against Sporting KC they played to a 1-1 draw, and in the last game against Farense they also played to a 1-1 draw.
If the preseason is any indication, the Wolves are going to continue to struggle to score, and they are going to need to rely on the defense for success.
