Lorient is welcoming AS Monaco to Stade Yves Allainmat-Le Moustoir in round 2 of the French Ligue 1. Lorient has barely escaped the relegation last season, but their preseason and start of the new season have been positive. Monaco has had a successful time in the Champions League qualifications, but they weren’t able to win in their season opener in Ligue 1.
Lorient ended last season in 16th place with 42 points, and their defense was one of the worst in the league with 68 conceded goals, but their offense was decent with 50 scored goals. As far as their preseason goes, Lorient hasn’t lost any of their 5 friendly games, and they are now undefeated in their last 8 games. In their season opener against Saint-Etienne on the road, Lorient has had 39% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, 2 big chances created, and 75% of the correct passes. This was a rough game, but Lorient got ahead in the 52nd minute. Unfortunately for Lorient, they conceded a penalty kick in the 70th minute, and they conceded a goal from it. This game has ended in a 1-1 draw. Le Goff is the only goalscorer for Lorient in Ligue 1 so far this season. There is no such thing as an easy schedule for Lorient or easy games for that matter, but I see Lorient in the battle to avoid the relegation this season as well.
Monaco is undefeated in their last 3 games, and in my opinion, they are one of the favorites to win the title this season. in their Champions League qualifications game earlier this week, Monaco was playing against Sparta Prague at home, and they were the better team with 60% of ball possession, 10 shots on goal, 1 corner kick, and 83% of the correct passes. After winning the first leg 0-2 on the road, Monaco has just confirmed their spot in the next stage with a 3-1 win at home. In the Ligue 1 season opener, Monaco was playing great against Nantes at home, and they have had the lead since the 14th minute, but that game has ended in a 1-1 draw. Gelson Martins has had a solid match, and he is now the only goalscorer for Monaco in Ligue 1. Lecomte and Isidor are injured for Monaco, Diatta is questionable, while Maripan is suspended because of the yellow cards. I think coach Kovac might rest some players in this game, but Monaco is still a good team with solid depth, and they need a win here to stay in good form.
Lorient hasn’t lost in their last 8 home games, and in their last 8 games overall, but their last home win against Monaco was back in 2010. Monaco is the better team here, and they will be dominant in this match, and I see them getting their first win of the season in Ligue 1.
