Manchester City and Manchester United are clashing at Etihad Stadium in round 28 of the English Premier League. City is at the top of the table, they have been the most dominant team this season, but Liverpool is still dangerously close to them. United is very sloppy this season, they are struggling with scoring goals, while they are also being inconsistent on the defensive end.
City is at the top of the table with 66 points, but as I’ve mentioned, Liverpool is still very close. Offensively, only Liverpool is better than City’s 64 scored goals, but defensively, City is the best team in the league with only 17 conceded goals. Of those 64 scored goals, Sterling has scored 10, while Mahrez has added 8 goals. Jesus has added 7 assists, while Concelo has 6 assists. City’s biggest weapon is a lot of offensive diversity, and pretty much any player on the pitch can score goals. In the Champions League, City is playing against Sporting next week, but they have gotten the job done in the first leg. Palmer and Dias are injured, and they will most likely miss this game. City has had quite a comfortable advantage in the EPL, but we got ourselves a competition going on now. The Champions League is City’s main goal this season, and overall, they are the best team in that competition in my opinion, and I hope they win it.
United on the other hand is nowhere near City’s level and quality, which is a shame because they are the bigger team. Even though United is undefeated in their last 6 games, they have won only 2 of those 6. In their last game, United was playing against Watford, and that was a game that ended in a 0-0 draw, and if they can’s score against one of the weakest defenses in the league, I’m not sure against who they can score. By some miracle, United is still in the top 4, in 4th place with 47 points, but unless they start winning some points, they will be out of it soon. United has played against Atletico Madrid in their Champions League game, and it ended in a 1-1 draw which is a good result for them, but I think they will need more in that second leg in a couple of weeks. United has a lot of talent, they have the players to win the EPL and the Champions League, but they have Ronaldo who is ruining them. Well, maybe next season.
United hasn’t lost any of their last 9 games on the road, but they are playing against City now, and that is a problem. The trends might be on United’s side here, but City has the advantage here. I will take goals.
