Mexico vs. Canada 10/7/21 CONCACAF World Cup Qualifications Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Mexico and Canada face off on Thursday in a CONCACAF World Cup qualifier at Aztec Stadium. When these two teams faced off in July, Mexico was able to come away with the 2-1 victory. Hector Herrera scored a goal in the 99th minute to pick up the win. 

Mexico currently sits in 1st place in the standings having picked up seven points. Mexico won their first two games before playing to a 1-1 draw against Panama. Mexico fell behind in the last game, but it was a goal in the 78th minute by Jesus Manuel Corona. Even though Mexico has found success, they haven’t scored as many goals as many expected. Against Jamaica, Mexico scored two goals, and two games ago against Costa Rica, they scored only one goal. This is a team that has a lot of offensive talent, and they need the offense to be strong in this game, or this is a game they might not pick up three points in. 

Canada currently sits in 1st place in the standings having picked up five points. Canada started with back-to-back draws against Honduras and the United States. In the last game against El Salvador, they had their most impressive game scoring three goals and cruising to the victory. Atiba Hutchinson opened up the scoring in the 6th minute and Jonathan David added another goal in the 11th minute. Tajon Buchanan also scored a goal in the 59th minute. They only had five shots total on goal, and 41 percent of the possession, but the defense was strong. El Salvador had seven shots, and zero shots on target. Earlier this season, Canada was competitive against Mexico, and they need the offense to be good again. 

Canada should be happy getting a point out of this game, and I expect them to play a very defensive style. When these two teams faced off earlier this year, the game could have ended 1-1 if it wasn’t for the late goal for Mexico. Canada’s defense is going to pay off, and the +0.5 at +145 will cash.
