New Zealand and South Korea are facing off in Round 1 of Group B in the Olympics 2021 soccer tournament. New Zealand and is a frequent competitor in the Olympics soccer tournament, and we will be seeing them once again. South Korea is a good team, they have some talented players, but they will need to improve their defense if they want to go deep in this tournament.
As I’ve mentioned, New Zealand is a frequent competitor at the Olympics, but they haven’t had much success so far. In 2008., and 2012. Olympics, New Zealand has had 4 losses and 2 draws while missing out on the 2016 Olympics. As we can see, New Zealand is still winless, and that is nothing weird because New Zealand isn’t a soccer country. New Zealand has a few good players who are playing in Europe, and Chris Wood is one of them. Wood is playing for Burnley in the EPL, and he can score some goals for this team. The second player is Winston Reid, a defender who is playing for West Ham, but he is far from his best form. There are a few more good players on this team, but not nearly enough for New Zealand to expect a medal in this tournament.
South Korea usually does well in the Olympics, and 2016 wasn’t an exception. South Korea was fantastic in the group stage with 2 wins and a draw, but they surprisingly lost to Honduras in the knockouts. In the 2012 Olympics, South Korea has won 3rd place by beating Japan. South Korea has a few LaLiga players on this roster, but most of the players are from the Korean national league, which is one of the best in Asia. In a friendly game a few days ago, South Korea has had a decent game against France, and they were even leading since the 62nd minute. Unfortunately for South Korea, they lost focus at the end of the game, and they have conceded 2 goals. The final score of this match was 1-2 in favor of France. I think this is a good group for South Korea, and I’m pretty sure they will advance to the next stage, but South Korea will need to stay on their toes for the knockouts.
There aren’t any past games between these two teams to take into consideration, but I think South Korea is the better team here, they have always done well in this tournament, and I think they will start this one with a nice win.
