Newcastle United comes into this game having picked up three points so far this season, but even in the loss they looked good. Newcastle scored five goals against Aston Villa in Game 1, and that was enough for the four goal victory. Alexander Isak scored twice in that game for Newcastle. Newcastle had 53 percent of the possession and 13 shots on target. In the last game against Manchester City the offense didn’t manage any goals, but the defense actually wasn’t all that bad in that game, and they only lost 1-0. Javier Manquillo has returned to training and he could go in this game. Harvey Barnes was on the bench for the last game, but he could move into the starting lineup here.

On the other side of this matchup is Liverpool who have picked up four points so far this season. All the buzz around Liverpool right now is about Mohamed Salah and the reports that he might be joining Al-Ittihad. It’s unclear at the time this was written if a deal is going to get done, but if he does leave, that’s a major loss. In the first game against Chelsea, Liverpool played to a 1-1 draw. In the last game against AFC Bournemouth, Liverpool looked better and was able to secure the 3-1 victory. Alexis Mac Alister did pick up a red card in the 58th minute though, and that is a big loss for that game. That red card has been overturned though, and he’s available for this game. Thiago Alcantara is dealing with a hip injury and he’s not ready to go in this game.

Even though Newcastle lost to Manchester City, I came away impressed and I think they follow that up with a big time performance here. The defense is going to step up in a big way, and Newcastle isn’t going to have any type of answer for it.
