Peru vs. Uruguay 9/2/21 CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifications Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Peru and Uruguay face off in match 7 of the CONMEBOL South American World Cup Qualifiers at the Estadio Nacional.. The last time these two teams faced off was in May of 2019 and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. 

Peru have really struggled so far during qualifying and they have picked up only four points in the six games. Peru made it all the way to the 3rd place game in Copa America where they were defeated 3-2 at the hands of Colombia. Peru actually played pretty well in that game, but they gave up a goal in the 94th minute and that led to the defeat. Peru had three shots on goal and 55 percent of the possession. In two of the last three games, Peru has scored at least two runs, and in this game, it’s going to be about that offense getting out to a fast start. At times the defense has been an issue, but this game is going to come down to the offense. 

On the other side of this matchup is Uruguay who have picked up eight points which puts them in fourth place in the standings. Uruguay made it to the quarter-final of Copa America but their offense was a big issue during that entire tournament. In their last game against Colombia they played to a 0-0 draw but lost in penalty kicks. Over the last two games Uruguay has scored only one run. This a good defensive team though and over the last three games they have given up zero runs. 

Uruguay is a defense-first team, and I expect goals are going to be very hard to come by in this game. Look for Uruguay to lock down and the under will cash. I am also throwing a few dollars on an exact score of 0-0.
