RB Salzburg is welcoming Bayern Munich to Red Bull Arena in the round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League. Salzburg is a fantastic team, the best in Austria, and they are really aggressive and offensively oriented. We all know what Bayern can do, we know they can score a lot of goals, but we also know they can’t defend right now.
Salzburg is now on a 3-game winning streak, while they have lost only 1 of their last 9 games. In the Austrian Bundesliga, Salzburg is at the top of the table, they have 14 points advantage over WAC, and they will once again win the title in Austria. Salzburg also has an excellent youth academy where they develop young players like Haaland, Daka, and others, and they never stop with that. In the group stage, Salzburg ended in 2nd place with 10 points, and while they haven’t been great on either end, they were pretty solid on both ends. Adeyemi and Okafor are leading goalscorers for Salzburg in the Champions League with 3 goals each so far, but Adeyemi will probably be leaving the club at the end of the season. Salzburg has to go for the win, or at least a positive result, and they are certainly good enough to do it.
Bayern is still leading Bundesliga, but they have had a shocking loss to Bochum in Bundesliga this past weekend. Bayern is struggling a lot when it comes to defending, and now that they don’t have Neuer, it will be even worse. In the group stage, Bayern was absolutely brilliant, they have won all 6 of their games, they have scored a massive 22 goals, while they conceded only 3 goals, which is remarkable. Of course, Lewandowski is also the leading goalscorer for Bayern in the Champions League as well with 9 scored goals so far, and he will be in the starting lineup here as well. Bayern will be without Goretzka, Davies, and Musiala for this game as well. When Bayern losses a game, they usually bounce back right away with a fantastic game where they score a ton of goals, and I think the same might be the case here. Yes, Bayern has injuries, they are not defending well, but they also have the offense that can outscore everyone.
These two teams have met a few times in the past, and we usually see a lot of goals, which is expected in this match as well. We know Bayern has more quality, and everything is simple here, outscore Salzburg. I’m siding with Bayern and goals.
