Roma vs. Cagliari 1/16/22 Serie A Soccer Pick, Predictions, and Odds

Roma is hosting Cagliari at Stadio Olimpico in round 22 of the Italian Serie A. Roma has had a massive lead over Juventus in their last game, but they ended up conceding 3 goals in the second half and losing that game 3-4. Cagliari is now on a 2-game winning streak, and thanks to that they are on the brink of exiting the relegation zone.

Roma is a solid team, at least they have sold players a lot of talent in the attacking end, but as a team, they suck. Roma hasn’t won any of their last 3 Serie A games while losing their last 2 in a row. Roma is sinking deeper and deeper in the Serie A standings, and they are now in 7^th place with 32 points. When it comes to scoring goals, Roma is good, they are not struggling with it, but their defense just can’t keep the ball out of their net. Roma has scored 35 goals while conceding 28 goals. We could say that Roma is struggling because they have a lot of injuries, but they have had that for most of the season. Roma also has a couple of suspensions right now with Cristante and Ibanez. Abraham has scored 8 goals for Roma, he is their leading goalscorer, but he needs more support. Pellegrini has added 6 assists. Roma will probably go back on a winning streak soon, but the longer it takes, the harder it will be for them to get in the top 4, and that is what they want.

As I’ve mentioned, Cagliari has won their last 2 games in a row, and they have scored 4 goals in those 2 games. The bad news for Cagliari is they haven’t been able to keep a clean sheet, but a win is a win. Cagliari now has 16 points, they have scored only 21 goals while conceding 42 goals, and they are one of the weakest defensive teams in the league. Cagliari is in 18^th place. Even though Cagliari is bad, they have one of the best strikers in the league in Joao Pedro, and even in a bad team like Cagliari, he was able to score 9 goals. There are still a few injuries in Cagliari as of right now.  Cagliari’s schedule is never easy, but because they are in good form right now, it might be a bit easier, and I think they could win some points over the next couple of weeks. It will be a long and hard second half of the season for Cagliari, but I think they can stay in Serie A.

When playing at home, Roma has not lost to Cagliari in their last 7 games, while Cagliari has won only 1 game on the road this season. I wanna say Roma will get a win here, but with their sloppy defense and Cagliari’s good form, I’m not so sure. I will stick to goals here.
