Roma and Inter are clashing at Stadio Olimpico in round 16 of the Italian Serie A. Roma are hot and cold right now, their defense is not holding as it should, and their offense is not producing enough. Inter is unstoppable right now, they are winning games and scoring goals when they want.
Roma was on a nice winning streak, but they lost to Bologna the other day, and it was a very stupid loss. Roma was the better team with 57% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, 1 big chance created, and 85% of the correct passes. Overall, a solid game from Roma, but they just couldn’t score a goal. Roma did concede a goal in this game, in the 35th minute, and they lost this match 1-0. Roma has some injuries, and a few of those players are pretty important for Mourinho and his team, but they have gotten used to it by now. Pellegrini is the leading goalscorer for Roma with 5 goals and 4 assists so far this season, while Veretout and Abraham added 4 goals each. As I’ve mentioned, Roma has been hot and cold lately, but they are capable of playing a lot better and a lot more consistently, and I think that will come soon.
Inter is now on a 4-game winning streak, and thanks to that they are in 3rd place with 34 points, which is only 2 points behind Napoli at the top, and 1 point behind Milan in second place. Not only Inter is the best offensive team in the league, but they are also one of the best defensive teams in the league with 15 conceded goals. Martinez is now the leading goalscorer for Inter with 8 goals, while Dzeko added 7 goals. Barella has added 5 assists. Inter is also playing in the Champions League next week against Real Madrid, and if they win, they will win that group, but even if they don’t, Inter will qualify to the next stage. In their last game against Spezia, Inter has been outstanding with 63% of ball possession, 11 shots on goal, 11 corner kicks, 2 big chances created, and a high 91% of the correct passes. Once again Inter could have scored a lot more goals, but they have still won this game 2-0. Like I said, their Champions League game is not a crucial one for Inter, but they would certainly love to beat a team like Real Madrid, but I think this Serie A game is a bit more important for them right now.
When playing at home, Roma hasn’t lost to Inter in their last 3 games but Inter hasn’t lost any of their last 4 games on the road. Inter also hasn’t lost any of their last 10 games overall. With Roma’s sloppy defense, I think Inter will have a field day here, but I also think Roma will get on the scoreboard because they are a solid team offensively.
