Sevilla is hosting Athletic Bilbao at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in round 38 of the Spanish LaLiga. Sevilla is now on a 4-game draw streak, but they have secured their Champions League spot for next season, and they are still the best defensive team in the league. Bilbao is looking for a spot in Europe, and the closest is the Europa League spot, for which they will need a win.
Sevilla is undefeated in their last 5 games, and they will either end this season in 3rd or 4th place. Sevilla scored 52 goals, which isn’t bad, but they have conceded only 30 goals so far this season, and they are the best defensive team in the league. With no pressure, Sevilla can freely play this game, and they might even focus more on the offense than the defense. Rafa Mir is the leading goalscorer for Sevilla with 9 goals, while Rakitic added 6 assists. Fernando and Suso are both injured. Sevilla was on Real Madrid’s tail for a long part of this season, but their offense simply wasn’t consistent enough, and that was their biggest issue. If Sevilla had a bit more offense to go with that defense of theirs, they would have won the title this season.
Bilbao is once again having a decent season, and once again they are pretty close to Europe. Bilbao is only one point away from the Conference League, but they need to hope Villarreal won’t get a win in their game. Bilbao is one of the best defensive teams in the league, but they are not scoring a lot of goals. Of the 43 goals Bilbao has scored, Williams has 8 goals to his name, while Muniain added 10 assists. Sancet and Nicholas Williams are both injured, while Garica is still questionable. Bilbao has been hot and cold throughout the entire season, and they have 3 wins in their last 5 games, but since Sevilla doesn’t need anything here, that might be a lucky break for Bilbao. I know the Conference League is not the most exotic competition in Europe but playing in the Conference League is better than not playing in Europe at all, if nothing else, they will get some money into their club.
Sevilla has been outstanding at home this season, and they will certainly not just roll over and let Bilbao get all the points. Bilbao will need to attack, they need at least a point here, but it will be tough. I see a battle here, and I think I will give it a shot with a first-half draw.
