Sevilla and Atletico Madrid are clashing at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in round 18 of the Spanish LaLiga. Sevilla got knocked out of the Champions League, but they are still playing pretty well in LaLiga this season. Atletico has saved themselves in the Champions League, but they are on a 2-game losing streak in LaLiga, but they are still in the top 4 in LaLiga.
Sevilla has won 4 of their last 5 games, and that one loss has cost them the spot in the Champions League. In their last LaLiga game, Sevilla was playing against Bilbao on the road, and this was a pretty boring game, but Sevilla did score a goal, and it was enough for a 0-1 win. In LaLiga, Sevilla is no closest to Real Madrid at the top, and they are in 2nd place with 34 points. Defensively, Sevilla has been outstanding with only 11 conceded goals, and their offense has been doing a solid job with 26 goals. Sevilla has a lot of injuries, and they still have a few questionable players, and that is a big problem for them. Rafa Mir is the leading goalscorer for Sevilla with 5 goals, while Lamela added 4 goals. Sevilla is good enough this season to end the season in the top 4, and I even think they might be a threat to Real Madrid in the title battle.
Atletico Madrid is very sloppy on the defensive end, but they somehow beat Porto in the last round of the Champions League, and that got them through to the next stage. In LaLiga, Atletico Madrid is now in 4th place with 29 points, and I think their hopes of defending the title are pretty much gone even though we still have half of the season to go. Offensively, Atletico has been great with 27 scored goals, but their defense has been terrible with 18 conceded goals already. In the previous seasons, Atletico was the best defensive team in LaLiga by far, and often they were the best defensive team in Europe, but it looks like those days are now gone. Suarez is the leading goalscorer for Atletico with 7 goals, while Carrasco and Correa added 4 assists each. Gimenez, Savic, Vrsaljko, and Griezmann are all injured. It seems there is no end to Atletico’s struggles on the defensive end, and with Gimenez and Savic out, I’m not sure how their defense will look in this game. It’s clear Atletico has the quality, they have a great goalkeeper, but they just get back into their groove defensively, and it’s costing them a lot.
This is the biggest game of the weekend in LaLiga, and it’s either going to be great, or it will be extremely boring, I don’t think there is anything in between. I know that the under is something people expect when they see big odds on goals, but I think that with both defenses not playing well, and with both offenses doing a solid job, we will see goals, and I will take it.
