Southampton is welcoming Arsenal to St. Mary’s Stadium in round 33 of the English Premier League. Southampton is on a terrible run right now, they haven’t won any of their last 6 games, and nothing is going their way. Arsenal is also on a losing streak, they have lost to Brighton in their last game, and the Champions League is slipping away from them.
With this bad streak, Southampton has dropped to 14th place, when they should be a few spots higher, and possibly even competing for the Conference League spot. Defensively, Southampton is losing focus, they have conceded 52 goals in 14 games, while their offense couldn’t pick up the slack with 37 scored goals. In their last game against Chelsea at home, Southampton got destroyed 0-6. We can say that injuries have played a part in this bad run for Southampton, but I think they are a solid team that should have done better. Adams and Ward-Prowse are the leading goalscorers for Southampton with 7 goals each, while Broja has added 6 goals. Redmond has 5 assists. Southampton will bounce back from this, and they will win games again, but I wish they stayed a bit more consistent to get close to Europe.
Arsenal is still in the Champions League race, they are now in 5th place with 54 points, but they are slipping. Yes, Arsenal is only 3 points behind Tottenham, but Tottenham is playing really well, and Arsenal has a pretty tough schedule for the rest of the season. Arsenal is now on a 2-game losing streak and losing to Brighton in their last game shouldn’t have happened. Arsenal has conceded 5 goals in their last 2 games while scoring only 1 goal, and that is a huge problem for a team that wants to qualify for the Champions League. There are a few injuries in Arsenal, and that has certainly played a part in their recent results, but the team like should not start slipping when they lose a couple of players. Smith-Rowe and Saka have each scored 9 goals for Arsenal so far this season, while Lacazette has added 7 assists. Arsenal has a lot of work to do for the rest of the season, they are good enough to qualify for the Champions League, but it’s Arsenal we are talking about.
This might be a perfect game for Arsenal to get back on track, but it could also be a chance for Southampton to end their streak as well. I think this will could be a fun game, which is why I will stick to my goals.
