Venezuela is hosting Uruguay at Jose Antonio Anzoategui in round 8 of the South American World Cup qualifications. Venezuela has been hot and cold, and they have now won only 1 of their last 5 games. Uruguay is struggling with scoring goals, and they have won 1 of their last 4 games, while not scoring a goal in their last 2 games.

Venezuela has won only 1 game so far in these qualifications, and they have scored only 3 goals in 5 games which is just terrible. In their most recent match, Venezuela was playing against Bolivia on the road, and they have had 48% of ball possession, 6 shots on goal, 2 corner kicks, 1 big chance created, and 83% of the correct passes. After conceding a goal in the 5th minute, Venezuela bounced back in the 26th minute. The second half was terrible for Venezuela, and they have conceded 2 goals. Venezuela has lost this match 3-1. Alongside Peru and Bolivia, Venezuela is the weakest team in South America, and it has been a long time since they had an impact on any of the major competitions, and I think it will be a while before they have an impact again.

Uruguay is a good team with solid depth, but they are sloppy in the attacking end, well in their offensive part of the midfield. Uruguay has slipped up in their last game, but they are still in the World Cup zone in these qualifications, in 5th place with 7 points. Uruguay was hosting Paraguay in their last game, and they have had 57% of ball possession, 2 shots on goal, 1 corner kick, 3 big chances created, and 75% of the correct passes. Uruguay has had some good chances in this match, but they just couldn’t finish any of them. This game has ended in a 0-0 draw. Suarez has scored 4 goals so far in these qualifications, and it’s only a matter of time before he starts scoring again. Defensively, Uruguay is one of the toughest teams in South America, and they will be getting Cavani back for this game which will give them more options in the attacking end, and it will make them much more dangerous. I believe Uruguay will qualify for the World Cup, the only question is if they will do it through the additional qualifications or from one of the top 4 spots.

Venezuela’s last home win against Uruguay was back in 2006. Uruguay is the better team here, and it’s about time for them to get back on the winning track. Venezuela is a bad team defensively, and for that reason, I’m taking Uruguay on the road.
