VfL Wolfsburg is welcoming Sevilla to Volkswagen Arena in round 2 of Group G in the UEFA Champions League. Wolfsburg has had a great start in Bundesliga, and a positive result in the Champions League, but their form has been declining as of late. Sevilla hasn’t lost any of their last 13 games, and they are in great form on both ends.
After being undefeated in their last 7 games, Wolfsburg was playing against Hoffenheim in Bundesliga this past weekend, and they lost that game. Wolfsburg has had 50% of ball possession, 2 shots on goal, 2 corner kicks, 0 bug chances created, and 82% of the correct passes. The defense that was winning games for Wolfsburg was nowhere to be seen in this game, and they ended up losing this match 3-1. For Wolfsburg to be in the Champions League is a huge success, and they are a solid team, but I think the lack of depth and the quality on the bench will be crucial in Wolfsburg’s downfall in the Champions League and Bundesliga. Yes, Wolfsburg is good enough to compete for the Champions League once again, and I think they will end the season in the top 5 in Bundesliga, but we will see if that will be enough.
Sevilla has improved massively in the attacking end, and they have scored 5 goals in their last 2 games. In LaLiga, Sevilla is in 3rd place with 14 points, 10 scored goals, and only 2 conceded goals, which is the least in the league. Sevilla has tied their first Champions League game against Salzburg at home, but they will be without En-Nesyri because he conceded a red card in that game. That game has ended in a 1-1 draw. As far as their last game goes, Sevilla was hosting Espanyol this past weekend, and they were solid with 54% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, 1 big chance created, and a solid 86% of the correct passes. With 1 scored goal in each half, Sevilla has won this game 2-0. Sevilla is definitely one of the favorites to win this group, if not the biggest favorite, but it will be tough. Yes, Sevilla is definitely one of the best teams in Spain, and they do have the quality to compete for the title, especially this season when Real and Barcelona are rebuilding.
If Wolfsburg hasn’t lost in their last game, I would have given them a look here, but I will take Sevilla here. Sevilla is the better team, they are in better form, and they are scoring more goals. I will take Sevilla on the road for plus money.
