VfL Wolfsburg is welcoming VfL Bochum to Volkswagen Arena in round 1 of the German Bundesliga. Wolfsburg has had their best season in years last season, and they have qualified for the Champions League from 4^th place in the standings. Bochum is the newcomer to Bundesliga after they won Bundesliga 2 last season, but they are playing with the big dogs now.

Wolfsburg is a solid team, they have signed some good players in the offseason, but there are also rumors that Brekalo and a few other players will leave Wolfsburg before the transfer window closes. In the preseason, Wolfsburg hasn’t had a good time, and they have lost 5 of their 6 friendly games, but they got back on track in the DFB Pokal last week. Weghorst has been Wolfsburg’s best player last season, and he will most likely remain at the club, and that is excellent news for them. It’s been a while since Wolfsburg has played in the Champions League, but they definitely deserved it. I think Wolfsburg is good enough to compete for one of the top 4 spots in Bundesliga once again, but we will see if they can handle playing on two fronts.

Bochum was the best team in Bundesliga 2 last season, and they deservedly won it, but this is a different beast. Bochum has started their preseason with 4 wins and a draw, but then they lost 2 games in a row. In their DFB Pokal match last week, Bochum has gotten a win, but only after extra time. As the newcomer to Bundesliga, Bochum must be prepared for the worse, but I don’t think they are the weakest team in the league, and I think they will be able to secure their spot for next season as well. The good news for Bochum is they have sold only 1 player in the offseason, but they have signed a bunch of players in free transfers, and they will need them all. There are no injuries or suspensions in Bochum at this time. The depth of their team will have a huge impact on the outcome of this season for Bochum, and I think they have enough depth to stay in Bundesliga for at least one more season after this.

It’s been a while since these two teams have played a game against each other, and the trends are actually on Bochum’s side. Wolfsburg is not in good form, but this is the start of a new season, and I see them getting a nice win at home.
