Wales and England face off on Tuesday in a World Cup Group B soccer showdown at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium.
England comes into this game sitting in 1st place in the group, having picked up four points so far. England opened up the World Cup with an impressive victory over Iran, winning 6-2. England scored all six goals after the 35th minute, and it looked like they were flying high. In the last game against the United States, though, England didn’t have many scoring chances, and they ended up with a 0-0 draw. The 0-0 draw didn’t sit well with the England fans. James Maddison is back in training, and it looks like he’s going to be available for this game. It’s unclear if they will decide to start him, but it looks like it’s an option.
On the other side of this matchup is Wales, who sits in 4th place in the group having picked up zero points. For Wales to advance, they need to beat England, and they need the game between Iran and the United States to end in a draw. In the first game of the World Cup, Wales played to a 1-1 draw against the United States. Gareth Bale scored in the 82nd minute by a penalty kick. In the last game against Iran, though, they gave up two late goals, and they ended up losing 2-0. Wayne Hennessey picked up a red card in the 86th minute, and he will be suspended in this game. Wale’s only goal has come by a penalty kick and in this game, they need to find a way to get better scoring chances. Danny Ward is expected to get the start in this game in goal.
I think Wales is going to find a way to pull the upset and at least give themselves a chance to advance. This England offense is going to struggle to get quality scoring chances again here. Bale is still on Wales, and he’s going to find a way to get behind the England defense, and score at least one goal. Back Wales to pull the upset.
