West Ham United and Manchester City face off on Sunday in an English Premier League showdown at London Stadium. When these two teams faced off on May 15th it was West Ham that secured the 2-2 victory.
West Ham had a strong season last year, finishing in seventh place in the Premier League, having picked up 56 points. Just a few years ago, there were many wondering if West Ham could even stay up in the Premier League, but now the question is can they finish in the top four? A win in this game against Manchester City would go a long way for their chances to do that. The team has brought in Nayef Aguerd who is a strong defender and an elite passer, that should make an impact very quickly for this team. West Ham hasn’t looked all that good in the preseason, and each of the last two games were a draw. In the last game against Lens, the offense looked bad, and it ended in a 0-0 draw.
On the other side of this matchup is Manchester City, who are trying to defend its Premier League title from last year. Manchester City finished in 1st place with 93 points. All eyes this season are going to be Erling Haaland who was brought in this off season from Red Bull Salzburg and in 116 games with them, he scored 115 goals. With all the surrounding talent here on this team, Haaland should score plenty of goals this season. Heading into the season, Manchester City had some nice wins, but also a disappointing loss. Two games ago against Bayern, Manchester City won 1-0, but in the last game against Liverpool, they were defeated 3-1 in the FA Community Shield in the final.
West Ham knows exactly how to make life tough on Manchester City, and they have the offense to score at least a couple of goals here against their defense. I do also think West Ham will play enough defense to not let Manchester City have a game where they score three or four goals. At home, West Ham is going to go goal for goal, and the two teams will play to a draw.
