The Wolverhampton Wanders and Fulham face off on Saturday in an Engish Premier League showdown at Molineux Stadium. When these two teams faced off in April of 2021 it was the Wolves that were able to secure a 1-0 victory.
The Wolves have high expectations for this season, but they got off the season to a slow start. In the first game of the season against Leeds United the Wolves opened up the scoring in the 8th minute with a goal by Daniel Pondence and it looked like they were well on the way to victory. After that first goal though, the defense started to struggle and they gave up two goals. In the 74th minute, it was an own goal. The Wolves had six shots on goal and 60 percent of the possession but it wasn’t enough as they couldn’t score enough. The Wolves made it clear heading into the season they wanted to be more of an attacking team, but in the first game, it still wasn’t enough.
On the other side of this matchup is Fulham who had to be dreading their opening game against Liverpool but now they are thrilled with the result from the game. Aleksandar Mitrović scored a goal in the 32nd minute and added another goal in the 72nd minute with a penalty kick. Liverpool did get a little bit of revenge and the Fulham defense gave up two goals after the 64th minute. Fulham was able to pick up a point which is really all they could hope to get from the first game of the season. Last season in the Championship, Fulham had more than 100 goals and that is something that should translate here to the Premier League. The biggest question is how will the defense hold up for the entire season.
The Wolves defense showed some holes in the first game, and this is a Fulham team that is going to find success scoring. It wouldn’t shock me if this game ended in a 2-2 draw, but there really isn’t a good play on the side. I expect plenty of scoring though, and this game is going to go over the total. Back the over to cash.
