Stefanos Tsitsipas meets Borna Coric in the third round of the 2020 US Open. Will Tsitsipas continue to steamroll past opponents here in New York, or will Borna Coric come to spoil the party?
Borna Coric is doing quite well after having a tough past few seasons due to injury. Borna Coric is still young and has a lot of promise, but he has been slowly getting back to the levels we are used to seeing him play at. Coric came through an extremely tight 5 set match against Juan Ignacio Londero, winning after being 2-1 down. Coric showed us that he will fight until the end even when losing and he gave us hope for his career to rejuvenate. The lockdown allowed Coric the time to get his body back to 100% and I am sure that he will have a solid year this year and an even better 2021 season.
Stefanos Tsitsipas has just been making easy work of his first and second-round matches here at the US Open, not losing a single set. Tsitsipas seems like a man on a mission, aiming to win his maiden Grand Slam, especially as Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are not in the mix this year. Tsitsipas has an incredible serve, a superb one-handed backhand and a strong mentality. I expect Tsitsipas to reach the Final here in New York, and potentially win it all.
This will be the first meeting between both players although they have met previously. Their only prior meeting was in Rome in 2018, where Coric retired early in the first set due to injury. This will be the first time they play a full match. I expect Tsitsipas to steamroll through this match, not allowing Coric to get a set off of the Greek. Although Coric is rejuvenating his career and slowly getting back to his best self, he does not possess the game to hurt Tsitsipas who is playing at 100% and has been playing a lot over the summer. Tsitsipas will come out here, dictate play and get this match under his belt in straight sets.
