ATP Cup: Daniil Medvedev (Team Russia) vs. Matteo Berrettini (Team Italy) Tennis Prediction

Daniil Medvedev of Team Russia faces Matteo Berrettini of Team Italy in the #1 Singles matchup in the 2021 ATP Cup Final in Melbourne, Australia. The match is scheduled to be played on Saturday February 6th, 2021 at approximately 8:20pm EST. This will be the second meeting between the two players with Medvedev winning that encounter. Who will win and earn their country a valuable point in the tie?

Daniil Medvedev has been in scintillating form so far at the ATP Cup. He is yet to lose a match here, defeating Kei Nishikori and Diego Schwartzman in straight sets before coming from a set down to beat German Alexander Medvedev in the Semi-Final. He is one of the best defensive players in the world and is extremely difficult to beat when he is in form. He served 12 aces in that match but struggled mightily with his second serve, committing a staggering 12 double faults which nearly cost him the match. He will have to be much better against an opponent in Berrettini who is in fantastic form. 

Matteo Berrettini is seemingly in the form of his life and has also gone undefeated here at the ATP Cup. He has gone 3-0 so far in singles matches and is yet to drop a set, with commanding victories over Dominic Thiem, Gael Monfils and Roberto Bautista-Agut, all top players. He has also been outstanding in doubles and is looking unstoppable at this point with his huge serve and hig forehand. It will take a huge defensive effort against him to win here and that is Medvedev’s specialty. He enters this match as the slight underdog but I think that it is a lot more even than most think. 

I think that this will be an extremely close match between two in-form players. Berrettini is playing unconscious tennis at the moment and one wonders if he can keep it going. He is definitely in with a big chance here but I still give the edge to Daniil Medvedev. His defense should be able to withstand the barrage of offensive shots that the Italian will throw at him and he should scrape through here. Russia seems very motivated to win the title here and this point might seal it for them. Daniil Medvedev to win.
