Queen’s Open: Alex De Minaur vs. Marin Cilic 6/18/21 Tennis Prediction

Fourth seed Alex De Minaur of Australia will face Croatian Marin Cilic in the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Queen’s Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Friday June 18th, 2021 at 7:00am EST.

This is set to be a very close and interesting match here in the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Queen’s Open. Alex De Minaur and Marin Cilic are both very experienced players on the ATP Tour and have been in good form of late on the grass. Can the Croatian advance to his second Semi-Final in as many weeks? Or will the fourth seeded De Minaur spoil the party and advance to his first Semi of the year?

Alex De Minaur is currently ranked #22 and is in the middle of a very inconsistent season. He won his fourth career title in Turkey early in the year, but has struggled to find form since. He reached the Quarter-Finals last week in Stuttgart losing to the unfancied Jurij Rodionov, and then defeated John Millman in the Round of 16 here at the Queen’s Open. He was dominant in that victory, and won 6-1, 6-3 without many issues. The Aussie is one of the quickest movers on tour and is an elite defender, which will come in very necessary here against the big hitting Marin Cilic, who is on a 7-0 run at the moment on grass.

Marin Cilic is unseeded here at the 2021 Queen’s Open but is a serious threat for the title, as he is on an astonishing unbeaten streak so far on grass this season. The big Croatian won the title last week in Stuttgart in very impressive fashion, defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime in the Final. He has continued that momentum so far here, and impressively dispatched Fabio Fognini in the Round of 16. He is in for a stern test here against the solid Alex De Minaur, and while he is the lower ranked player he will be very dangerous given his form.

This should be a very exciting match played between two players of contrasting styles. De Minaur is a counterpuncher, and Cilic is sure to come out firing, using his big serve to great effect. I do believe this match will go to three sets, but ultimately I am backing the Croatian to get the win. He is on a serious hot streak, and I don’t see the Aussie having enough firepower to win on this surface. Marin Cilic will win and advance to the Semis here at the 2021 Queen’s Open.
