Wimbledon: Andrey Rublev vs Marton Fucsovics 7/5/21 Tennis Prediction

Fifth seeded Russian Andrey Rublev will face unseeded Marton Fucsovics of Hungary in the Round of 16 at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. The match is scheduled to be played on Monday July 5th, 2021 at 7:15am EST.

This will be the fifth match between the two players this season, and while Andrey Rublev has won all four so far, this will be a whole different challenge on this grass court. Both men have played some outstanding tennis so far here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships and will be gunning for a spot in the Quarter-Finals. Can Marton Fucsovics cause the upset and advance here? Or will the world number seven get the win as expected as he seeks a first major title?

Andrey Rublev is the world number seven and is seeded fifth here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. He has dominated the lower ATP events over the past two years and has finally been making his mark on the bigger events, however doubts remained over his ability to play on the grass. He has seemingly figured it out and adapted well, reaching the Round of 16 for the loss of only one set. After a convincing win over Lloyd Harris, he defeated the dangerous Fabio Fognini to set up this clash with Marton Fucsovics in the Round of 16. While he is the favorite here he will know the strengths of the Hungarian will be magnified on this faster court, and he will have to be careful.

Martin Fucsovics is ranked #48 on the ATP Tour, but is a better player than his ranking suggests. The unseeded Hungarian has so much quality from the baseline, and has a very strong serve allowing him to win a lot of free points thus far. He has caused two upsets so far, in the First Round over Jannik Sinner and again in the Third Round over Diego Schwartzman. He dominated the Argentine in particular, overpowering him from the baseline and leaving him with no chance. He won over 70% of his service points, something that will be necessary here. While his opponent Andrey Rublev is the favorite here in the Round of 16, Fucsovics does have a lot more variety than his opponent, and while he lacks the firepower, anything can really happen on this surface.

This will be the sixth time that the two players have faced each other on the ATP Tour, and Rublev leads the head to head 4-1. However, they have never played on grass, and neither man has had much success nor experience on the surface. Rublev is still obviously the big favorite for this match, but due to the uncertainly surrounding the surface, Marton Fucsovics will feel like he has a chance here. I think that both men will win a set, but ultimately Andrey Rublev will win the match. He simply has too much quality to lose here, and he will come through a tough one here.
