Karen Khachanov vs Sebastian Korda
July 5, 2021 6:00 am EDT

Karen Khachanov (25) of Russia will face unseeded American Sebastian Korda in the Round of 16 at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. The match is scheduled to be played on Monday July 5th, 2021 at 6:00am EST.

An exciting match is expected as Karen Khachanov meets Sebastian Korda for a spot in the Quarter-Finals here at Wimbledon. Both men have been impressive so far here and will be backing themselves. Who will get the win here and advance to their first Grand Slam Quarter-Final of the year?

Karen Khachanov is the 25th seed here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships and was once ranked as high as the top 10 in the ATP world rankings. The Russian has seen a dramatic loss of form over the past few seasons but remains a very dangerous player. Despite all his issues, he has started well here, defeating Mackenzie McDonald in four sets in the opener before dominating Egor Gerasimov in the Second Round. Khachanov then defeated the in-form Frances Tiafoe in the Third Round, in surprisingly easy fashion. When he gets going he can really be a difficult opponent to beat on any surface, and things seem to be clicking for him here. He should be considered the favorite here against Sebastian Korda, and will be using his trademark power game to overcome the young American.

Sebastian Korda is unseeded here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, and is ranked #50 on the ATP Tour. His game seems perfectly suited for this surface and conditions but he has never played at Wimbledon before, and is still not truly comfortable. Despite his inexperience he has been amazing so far here at Wimbledon, upsetting Eastbourne champion Alex De Minaur in the First Round and then caused yet another upset when he defeated local star Dan Evans on Center Court. That is no small feat and he handled the nerves very well, with the entire stadium backing the British player Evans. Despite being the underdog here, Korda has a very well-rounded game and a lot more variety than Khachanov, so an upset is a distinct possibility here.

This will be the first meeting between the two players and they seem to be very evenly matched. They have contrasting styles and I expect that this will be very keenly contested. It is very difficult to choose between the two, but in a close match on such a big stage I always go with experience, and that is Karen Khachanov. Sebastian Korda has played very well so far here at Wimbledon, and will certainly be here again in the future, but I am going with Khachanov here. He is playing with controlled aggression and should be able to prevail here in four or five sets.
