Swiss Open: Vit Kopriva vs. Mikael Ymer 7/23/21 Tennis Prediction

Vit Kopriva vs Mikael Ymer
July 24, 2021 12:00 pm EDT

Vit Kopriva meets Mikael Ymer in the quarter final of the 2021 Swiss Open on Friday, July 23rd, 2021.

Will Mikael Ymer come out here and get a very big win for his as he will be able to get himself far into a tournament for the first time in a while, or will Vit Kopriva use the momentum gained from his amazing upset win over Shapovalov?

Mikael Ymer put on a solid performance against Feliciano Lopez, coming back from a set down to win the match 6-7/7-6/6-4. Mikael Ymer is not at the level of most of his fellow youngsters as he is just within the top 100, whilst the likes of Shapovalov, Tsitsipas, Rublev, FAA, and Ruud are within the top 20 in the world. Mikael Ymer does have the game to compete with them on his day, but he needs to find the consistency required to perform at a high level every week to then cement himself as a mainstay and rise up the rankings.

Vit Kopriva put on a solid comeback display of tennis in beating his first ever top 10 player, Denis Shapovalov in 3 sets, 3-6/6-3/6-2. Vit Kopriva knows that if he can beat Denis Shapovalov here in Switzerland in a very good fashion he can beat anyone. However, he cannot take Mikael Ymer too lightly here as Ymer can pack a punch with his forehand when he is at his best. Kopriva is on the tough side of the draw where he will most likely meet Ruud in the next round, so he needs to use this match as a preparation for that one.

This is going to be the 1st meeting between both players, and I do expect it to be a tight one. Vit Kopriva will believe that after Shapovalov he should win this match for sure, but Mikael Ymer has been putting on strong performances over the last month or so. Mikael will know he has everything to gain and nothing to lose here so he won’t be afraid of giving it his best. I don’t see Kopriva causing two big upsets in a row as he will most likely be riding the high from his win over Denis.
