Second seeded Russian Daniil Medvedev will play third seeded Alexander Zverev of Germany in the Group Stages of the 2021 Nitto ATP Finals held in Turin, Italy. The match will be played on Tuesday November 16th, 2021 at 9:00am EST.

A blockbuster match between two of the best players in the world is expected here at the 2021 Nitto ATP Finals as Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev do battle. Both men have been in world class form throughout this season and have an unbeaten 1-0 record so far at this event. Who will win this high quality matchup and secure their place in the Semi-Finals?

Daniil Medvedev is the defending champion here at the Nitto ATP Finals and is ranked #2 in the world. The big Russian has been one of the top players in the world for a few years now, but broke out in a big way this year, winning his first ever Grand Slam title at the US Open. As the pre-tournament favorite along with Novak Djokovic he is expected to win this group and move on to the Semi-Finals, but found the going tough in his first match, needing three tough sets to get past Hubert Hurkacz. Medvedev will have been delighted with the win but knows that he will have to be much better here against Alexander Zverev who seems to be in good form at the moment. His big serve will need to be firing on all cylinders for him to get past the German and he will be confident heading into the match as the slight favourite.

Alexander Zverev is the third seed here in Turin and is also ranked #3 in the world rankings. The German has enjoyed yet another productive season on the ATP Tour but will have been disappointed that he did not perform better at the major events after doing well in the Masters-1000 tournaments. He won his first match here when his opponent Matteo Berrettini retired due to an injury so he will be a little short of match practice on these courts while his opponent Daniil Medvedev had a marathon first match. As is usually the case with Zverev, if he serves well he generally wins the match, although it will not quite be as simple as that here against the world number two Medvedev.

This is sure to be a very exciting match, full of high class tennis. Both men have been standout performers on the ATP Tour, and are extremely experienced. I wouldn’t be surprised if this match goes the distance as they are quite similar in level, but I am going to back Daniil Medvedev to win here. He has been in incredible form since summer, and is arguably the best hard court player in the world at the moment. Alexander Zverev will give him a run for his money, but expect the Russian to win in three close sets here, booking his place in the Semi-Finals at the 2021 Nitto ATP Finals.
