Sydney Open: Andy Murray vs. Aslan Karatsev 1/15/22 Tennis Prediction
Aslan Karatsev vs Andy Murray
January 15, 2022 4:00 am EDT
Aslan Karatsev faces Andy Murray in the final of the 2022 Sydney Open on Saturday, January 15th 2022.
Which of these two hard hitting players will get their maiden title of the year? Will it be the experienced Andy Murray, or will it be the determined Russian, Aslan Karatsev?
Aslan Karatsev had to ensure he held his nerve during his semi final match against Daniel Evans, beating the Brit in 3 tight sets. Aslan seemed to be in control for the majority of the match, with his serve being quite good. However, somehow, Daniel was able to win the tiebreak with a scoreline of 15-13 in the second set. This is always hard because a player can lose their concentration after losing a tight set like that, but Aslan went back to the basics and got the job done to get himself into this final.
Andy Murray also had to maintain his nerve in his match, having lost the first set in tight fashion against the big serving, Reilly Opelka. However, Murray was in great form in his match all throughout because he was getting a good read on Opelka’s serve and he was neutralising it as best as he could. Murray will be very happy to be back in an ATP final after 2 years and he will know that if he comes out physically ready, he can get his 47th title of his career.
This is going to be the first meeting between both players, and I expect a very entertaining one here in Sydney. Both players are very similar in playing style, focusing on a big first serve and aiming to really finish the points with winners. Although they do that, they can also play long and draining rallies. I expect for a tight match here where they can both see the title in their hands, but I think experience will prevail here, especially in a place like Australia where just 3 years ago, Andy was announcing his retirement. I think this is a redemption arch, and Andy won’t let this slip away.
