Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff meet in the final of the 2022 tennis French Open.
Iga Swiatek is coming off a straight set win over Daria Kasatkina that took 15 games to decide. In the victory, Swiatek won 79 percent of her first serve points and 58 percent of her second serve points. Swiatek won 73 percent of her total service points and converted on 5 of her 10 break points. Swiatek got 70 percent of her first serves in play and faced just one break point. Swiatek has dropped just one set this tournament, and she’s won 24 of her last 25 sets overall. Swiatek looks to win her ninth career title and her second grand slam title. Swiatek has won each of her last eight final appearances, and she won the French Open in 2020. Swiatek has won 15 straight matches on clay court.
Coco Gauff is coming off a straight set win over Martina Trevisan that took 16 games to decide. In the victory, Gauff won 74 percent of her first serve points and 47 percent of her second serve points. Gauff won 64 percent of her total service points and converted on 6 of her 11 break points. Gauff got 62 percent of her first serves in play and saved 3 of her 5 break points. Gauff has not dropped a set this tournament, and each of her last eight wins have been decided in straight sets. Gauff looks to win her third career title and her first ever grand slam title. Gauff is 2-0 in previous final appearances, and this is her first final trip since last year’s Emilia-Romagna Open. Gauff has five career wins over top-10 players, and one of those wins came this year. Gauff has won 9 of her last 11 matches on clay court.
Swiatek has won both meetings against Gauff in straight sets. The matches took place in 2022 Miami and 2021 Rome.
Gauff continues to grow before our eyes, and she’s a worthy opponent in this match, capable of an upset when she’s playing at her best. There’s some value with the young American and massive plus money. With that said, Swiatek continues to steamroll the competition, and she’s simply not somebody you should be eager to step in front of, as I’ve said time and time again. Swiatek is on a historic run and there are no signs of it slowing down.
I’ll be rooting for Gauff and the upset, but I have to side with Swiatek in straight sets in terms of business.
