The Russian has been on a phenomenal streak lately, winning three consecutive tournaments in Rotterdam, Qatar and Dubai to break back into the top 10 of the rankings. It was a welcome sight after a poor start to the year and he will seek to continue that form here in Indian Wells where he is a major favorite to win the title. He has a tricky match first up against Brandon Nakashima but once he plays close to his best he should be able to navigate it.

Brandon Nakashima is unseeded here at the 2023 Indian Wells Masters and is ranked 48th in the world. One of the most promising young players on tour, the American won his first title last year and will have his eyes set on another strong season. He impressively defeated John Isner in the First Round 7-6, 6-3, an impressive win that would have served as a serious confidence booster. He has the weapons to trouble Daniil Medvedev here, but will likely struggle with his opponent’s consistency and mental strength.

This is a tricky first match for him, but I expect Daniil Medvedev to win comfortably here. He is on one of the best streaks of his career, and on this surface he can be almost unbeatable unless your name is Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. He rarely loses to lower ranked players in the big tournaments, and I don’t expect him to lose here. Nakashima is very talented, but he will go down in straight sets here at the 2023 Indian Wells Masters.
