Andalucia Open: Alejandro Davidovich Fokina vs. Damir Dzumhur 4/6/21 Tennis Prediction

Fifth seeded Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain will face unseeded Bosnian Damir Dzumhur in the First Round of the 2021 Andalucia Open held in Marbella, Spain. The match is scheduled to be played on Tuesday April 6th, 2021 at approximately 11:30am EST

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is currently ranked #56 in the ATP world rankings and is considered one of the top young players in world tennis today. He enters this match in decent form, having some consistent results in 2021 without winning any titles. He is a very powerful baseline player, but his main strength is in his variety, being able to hit any shot in the book and not allowing opponents to settle. He enters this match as the heavy favorite over Damir Dzumhur, and his hometown support is expected to take him to victory here. At this stage in their careers he is simply the better player but he would be wise to not underestimate his opponent who is still a dangerous player despite being at the end of his career. 

Damir Dzumhur is a former top 25 player who now finds himself languishing outside the top 120. He is still a very capable player but has lost a lot of his quickness and movement and is not expected to put up much of a challenge here. At this stage of his career he finds himself playing mainly on the Challenger Tour with limited success. While he is the heavy underdog on paper, he is a very steady baseline player, and will not give much away to his opponent. If Davidovich Fokina is not at his best, the consistent Dzumhur can cause him some issues. 

This is a relatively tough First Round match for the hometown favorite Alejandro Davidovich Fokina but it is a test that he is expected to pass with flying colours. While Damir Dzumhur is still a capable player, he simply does not have the firepower to trouble the young Spaniard and I expect this to be a relatively comfortable straight sets victory. Davidovich Fokina is a very powerful player from the baseline and he should overpower the veteran and advance to the Round of 16 here at the 2021 Andalucia Open.
