Top seeded Daniil Medvedev of Russia will face Australia’s Matthew Ebden in the Semi-Finals of the 2021 Marseille Open ATP Event. The match is scheduled to be played on Saturday March 13th, 2021 at 10:20am EST.
Will the new world #2 get the easy win and advance to the Final here in Marseille? Or can the unseeded Aussie Qualifier produce yet another shocking upset?
Daniil Medvedev has risen to a new career high ranking of world number two and has had a mixed start to the year in 2021. After reaching the Final of the Australian Open he stunningly lost in the Round of 16 in Rotterdam to Dusan Lajovic, in a match that he seemingly gave away, showing very little effort. It are these types of performances that have fans divided over him, and makes him hard to predict in these lower level ATP events. When he is fully focused and giving his all, he is clearly one of the best players in the world and capable of winning any event. While he was poor in Rotterdam he has looked great so far in Marseille, especially in his straight sets win over young phenom Jannik Sinner. He seems fully focused and locked in here, and enters this match as the huge favorite
Matthew Ebden is currently ranked #287 in the world, after struggling with injuries and loss of form over the past few years. Once ranked inside the top 40, he has been playing some spectacular tennis of late and fully deserves to be in the Semi-Finals here. After coming through the Qualifying Rounds he has played well, defeating Benjamin Bonzi and Emil Ruusuvuori. However, it was his three set upset over Karen Khachanov that made everyone sit up and take note. He served extremely well there, playing with controlled aggression throught. He enters this match as the huge underdog and will have to play the match of his life to have any chance here. However, he is playing some of the best tennis of his career and knows that Medvedev is prone to meltdowns, so he will be backing himself here.
While Ebden is playing some fantastic tennis, this match will be a straight sets win for Daniil Medvedev. He seems determined to win the title here and has not dropped his focus for a second, unlike in Rotterdam. Expect him to dominate from start to finish.
