ATP Open Sud de France : David Goffin vs Egor Gerasimov 2/27/2021 Tennis Prediction

Second seeded David Goffin of Belgium faces unseeded Egor Gerasimov of Belarus in the Semi-Finals of the 2021 Open Sud de France ATP event. This will be the second meeting between the two players, with Gerasimov leading the head to head by one win to zero. Who will win and advance to their first final of the year?

Currently ranked #15, David Goffin will be eager to have a strong season in 2021 after an inconsistent past few years, and regain his spot in the top 10 of the rankings. He had an extremely tough 2020 season, first contracting COVID-19 and then struggling to win matches after his return. His year did not get off to a great start, losing in the First Round both in Adelaide and the Australian Open. He has looked good so far here in Montpellier, getting through a tough three setter over Benjamin Bonzi and then impressively defeating Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets. When he is in form he is very difficult to beat and he enters this match as the firm favorite. 

Egor Gerasimov is currently ranked #83 and has had a mixed start to the year. He was destroyed at the Australian Open by surprise package Aslan Karatsev, winning only one game but has recovered nicely, with impressive straight sets victories over Andy Murray, Aljaz Bedene and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina so far here in Montpellier. He is extremely solid from the baseline and serves well, but lacks a true weapon. His game is also not particularly suited for these fast indoor courts. He will struggle here as it is likely necessary to hit through Goffin to be successful and he lacks the required power to do so. He enters this match as the underdog but will be confident after a strong showing this week. 

Despite his relative lack of form this should be a routine win for David Goffin. He finally is playing with some self-belief and is striking the ball very well. Gerasimov is also playing well but his peak is no match for the Belgian’s and I am expecting a straight sets victory for Goffin.
