ATP Open Sud de France : Roberto Bautista Agut vs Peter Gojowczyk 2/27/2021 Tennis Prediction

Top seeded Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain faces unseeded Peter Gojowczyk of Germany in the Semi-Finals of the 2021 Open Sud de France ATP event in Montpellier, France. The match is scheduled to be played on Saturday February 27th, 2021 at 11:20am EST. They have played four times over the course of their careers with the Spaniard winning on each occasion.

Will he extend that streak to 5-0 and reach his first final of the year? Or can the German cause the upset?

Roberto Bautista Agut is currently ranked #13 but has been in mixed form over the past few months. After a disappointing Australian Open where he was knocked out in the First Round by Radu Albot, he has been in dominant form here in Montpellier, winning both of his matches in comprehensive fashion over Gregory Barrere and Ugo Humbert. He has hardly put a foot wrong here and is seemingly back to his confident self. With his penetrating, flat groundstrokes he can be very difficult to beat when he is in form, as evidenced by his multiple top 5 wins. He has been serving particularly well this week, which is normally his weak point and if that continues he certainly will be the favorite to lift the trophy here. He enters this match as the firm favorite, being ranked over 100 places ahead of his opponent.

Peter Gojowczyk is currently ranked #144 and has been in poor form of late. He will be delighted to be in the Semi-Final here after plying his trade mainly on the Challenger Tour in recent months. A qualifier for this tournament, he has had some huge wins over Jan-Lennard Struff in the First Round and Dennis Novak in the Quarter-Finals to reach this stage. He is a solid baseliner with a huge serve and he will need that serve to be working if he is to have any chance here. Bautista Agut is one of the best returners on tour and will be sure to take advantage of any mishaps from the German. He enters this match as the overwhelming underdog but at this stage is playing without pressure as he did not expect to be here.

This match should be one way traffic and will result in a win for the Spaniard. While he has not been at his best this year, he has looked outstanding here in Montpellier and I see no indication of that level dropping. Once he is able to get a handle on Gojowczyk’s serve he should control this match and have no issues progressing to the final.
