He arrives on the back of a Quarter-Final showing at the Dallas Open where he lost to Taylor Fritz in three sets. In stark contrast to his opponent Ben Shelton, he struggles to hold serve and relies on breaking serve and grinding points out with his counter-punching style. He won’t be able to keep up with the power of his opponent, and will have to hope that he can wear him down into committing numerous unforced errors.

This should be a close and interesting match, but it is hard to ignore the upside of Ben Shelton here. He has really taken his game to new levels and is dominant from the baseline. Once he is able to keep his errors in check he should have no problems controlling the points, but Giron is no slouch and won’t go away easy. I expect it to be close, but back Shelton to win in two very close sets, possibly three.
