Eighth seed Casper Ruud will face Hungarian World No. 91 Fabian Marozsan in the round of 16 of the 2023 Shanghai Masters. The match will be played on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

Casper Ruud has produced two assured and complete performances to reach the fourth round of the Shanghai Masters. The sixth seed won his opener against Yoshihito Nishioka 7-5, 6-0 and then tamed the big-serving Wimbledon quarterfinalist Christopher Eubanks 6-4, 6-2, breaking the American three times from seven break point chances. Ruud was also able to fend off three break points on his own serve. The Norwegian finished the match by winning 84% first-serve points. He’ll be looking to reach back-to-back quarterfinals at this year’s Asian swing when he confronts Hugnary’s Fabian Marozsan.

The name Fabian Marozsan became very much a household on the ATP stage at this year’s Rome Masters. Marozsan sensationally defeated two-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz at the Italian capital, doing so in straight sets. Four months on since his scintillating ATP debut run, Marozsan has equaled his career-best achievement on the ATP Tour, with a fourth-round showing in Shanghai. Again, he’s been a real giant-killer in the first week, accounting for wins over Dusan Lajovic and Arthur Rinderknch, but none of those wins match up to his stunning defeat of 11th seed Alex de Minaur. Does he have another upset up his sleeve?

Casper Ruud cannot treat this matchup lightly. He’s gunning for a spot in the ATP Finals and he absolutely cannot afford a slip-up in this match. It would be a big setback. Marozsan is playing some solid and high-level tennis this season and he’s showcased his wonderful court coverage and ability to go for winners when you least expect it. The Hungarian is a player who likes to take risks and can always disrupt a rally with some great variety. I still expect Ruud to have the answers given what’s at stake for him. At -333 he is very short outright and we’d recommend taking Marozsan to cover the over 10.5 of his games at -111. He’s dropped his serve just twice this week and has averaged 80% of first serves landed.
