Fifth seeded Italian Matteo Berrettini faces the unseeded Albert Ramos-Vinolas of Spain in the Second Round of the 2021 Cincinnati Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Tuesday August 17th, 2021.

Wimbledon Finalist Matteo Berrettini has not played on the tour since reaching his first Grand Slam Final a few weeks ago. He picked up a thigh injury that forced him to miss the Olympics, but is seemingly fully fit and rearing to go here at the Cincinnati Open. First up for the Italian is the veteran Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas, who while not known for his prowess on hard courts will still be a tough opponent due to his vast experience. Does he have what it takes to stop the flashy Berrettini?

Matteo Berrettini is the fifth seed here at the Cincinnati Open and is ranked #8 in the world, a new career high. Not many players have had as good a season as the Italian, who has already won two titles, and reached the Final at Wimbledon and at the Madrid Masters. The Italian has not played for a few weeks due to injury, but if fully fit will be one of the main contenders for the title here as the players tune up in preparation for the US Open. His big serve and groundstrokes are very effective on hard courts, and his confidence will be at an all time high after the year that he has had. Once he is fully fit, he is the big favorite here against Albert Ramos-Vinolas and will hope to shake the rust off quickly here.

Albert Ramos-Vinolas is unseeded here at the Cincinnati Open and is ranked 49 in the world rankings. The Spaniard is much better known for his success on clay, but has had a few noteworthy hard-court results. He stunned local hero Taylor Fritz in the First Round, proving that he is no slouch on the surface. It was very impressive how he held his nerve to recover from a set down against the big serving American, and returned serve extremely well. He is up against a much tougher opponent here in Matteo Berrettini however, and will have to be much improved to have any sort of chance here. If his opponent is rusty from his break and the Spaniard is able to get off to a fast start then anything happen, but he is the massive underdog here.

This is a relatively easy match to predict, and will result in a straight sets win for Matteo Berrettini. Despite his injury break, he simply has too much firepower for the Spaniard to handle and I don’t see him having many issues here. It may take him a while to get going, but he will figure it out eventually and overpower his opponent Albert Ramos-Vinolas, advancing to the Round of 16 here at the Cincinnati Open.
