French Open: Diego Schwartzman vs. Aljaz Bedene 6/3/21 Tennis Prediction
Diego Schwartzman vs. Aljaz Bedene
June 3, 2021 7:00 am EDT
Diego Schwartzman (10) meets Aljaz Bedene in the second round of the 2021 French Open on Thursday, June 3nd 2021.
Will Aljaz Bedene continue to find success against Diego Schwartzman as he looks to cause the upset in Paris, or will Diego Schwartzman come out here ready to put on performances as good as last year when he reached the semi finals here at the French Open?
Aljaz Bedene put on a solid performance in the first round, beating the Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in 4 sets 7-5/3-6/7-5/6-2. Aljaz was able to maintain his composure in the first 3 sets and bag two of them in very tight moments. This was very good as it allowed him to show that he is very good under pressure and that he can definitely ruffle some feathers when underestimated. Will Aljaz now get a huge top 10 win under his belt in a slam to put his name out there on the big stage unlike the tournaments he usually plays in?
Diego Schwartzman dominated his first round match, beating Yen-Hsun Lu in 3 sets 6-2/6-2/6-3. Diego Schwartzman has not been in strong form in 2021, but I am sure that he will aim to continue to raise his level here in Paris this year. Diego loves clay, and if he is not able to get anything going in the last clay court tournament of the year, and the biggest one, he will struggle for the rest of the season on courts which do not suit his playing style. Diego will have to now play an opponent he has struggled against in the past, but if anyone can overturn bad form, it is Diego.
This is going to be the 4th meeting between both players, with Aljaz Bedene having won 2 of their 3 prior encounters. Their last meeting was won by Diego, but it was tight. Both of these players know each others game quite well, and they will know what they need to improve if they want to succeed in this match. It will be a tight encounter from start to finish, and either of them could win it. However, I think Diego will give a bit more as he knows that he should be winning these matches, especially after his amazing run here last year. Diego Schwartzman to win.
