Jannik Sinner will face Stefanos Tsitsipas in the opening match of the 2023 ATP Finals in Turin. The match will be played on Sunday, November 12, 2023.

Sinner vs Tsitsipas Preview

Jannik Sinner will have the chance to make history at the 2023 ATP Finals. No Italian man has won this prestigious year-end championship. With the home factor expected to be valuable for the fourth seed, Sinner will look to kick off his campaign with a bang on Sunday. The 22-year-old is making his first full debut as a qualifying player (he played as an alternate a couple of seasons ago), and he’s in great form coming to the tournament. Sinner won two ATP 500 titles in the past two months, and was unfortunate that his week in Paris was curtailed by fatigue. Since his fourth exit at the US Open, Sinner has won 13 of his past 14 matches – the winningest player on tour.

Stefanos Tsitsipas, for his part, enters this match looking to keep up his recent spell of good results. Tsitsipas made the semifinals in three successive indoor tournaments, including the Paris Masters. So this is a very different version of the Greek to the one that stumbled many times in the second half of the season. Having won the ATP Finals on debut back in 2019, Tsitsipas has been eliminated in the group stage in his subsequent three appearances. Can he change that sequence this time?

Sinner vs Tsitsipas Prediction

Stefanos Tsitsipas has a fine record over Jannik Sinner winning five of their seven meetings. They’ve played twice this season and they are tied at 1-1. But it is Sinner who won their last meeting in Rotterdam, which was on an indoor hard court. The Italian’s blend of measured aggression and consistency is likely to be a stumbling block for Tsitsipas. There are also reports coming from Turin that Tsitsipas stopped practice in each of the past two days due to elbow injury. So, this only enhances Sinner’s chances of getting the win. If Sinner settles early on and gets the crowd crowing, I can see this one being a very comfortable win for him.
